Cloud Migration: GDPR-Compliant in 5 Steps

XYLOX•

Anyone processing personal data must ensure their cloud provider is also GDPR-compliant. EU hosting is often the safest path.

1. Inventory

Which data goes to the cloud? An inventory of all data flows is the first step – including responsibilities and access controls.

2. Choose a Provider

Look for DPA agreements (Data Processing Agreements), EU server locations, and certifications like ISO 27001.

3. Encrypt Data

Encryption of data at rest and in transit protects against unauthorized access. TLS for transmission, AES-256 for storage are standard.

4. Test Migration

Before the final move: set up a test environment, verify data consistency, and prepare a rollback scenario.

5. Operations & Documentation

After migration, data protection impact assessments, records of processing activities, and access controls must be regularly updated.
